Just some thoughts on why I feel that God as we know him to be here in America is a myth. But wait! That also applies to all gods and goddesses throughout history. My reason for my current view is that I personally believe after having been a former Christian myself, and diligent study that gods are man made. Believing in god helps to stave off the fear of dying, and for some people it gives meaning to their lives. I consider myself to be a strong atheist because I am firmly convinced in my belief,or at least in this case non-belief.
I view religion from many different points of view and I could not help but notice that the biblical god is nothing more and nothing less than a bully,a tyrant who seems to enjoy tormenting humanity. You are not given a choice in life, either you believe in him or you will pay for it eternally in the Christians imaginary hell. They the religious folks would love to subvert the search for true knowledge by instituting the ludicrous idea of faith. I have always said that faith is voluntary ignorance since in order to believe in god you have to cast all reason aside and just believe that he is.
Religion has been the cause of much strife and mayhem in the world from ancient to modern times. Millions if not billions have been murdered throughout history to promote the spread of a particular religion. Many have been tortured and slain in the name of religion and even in today's world religion dominates the hearts and minds of many. I will post my thoughts on religion daily that way I can keep a sort of journal on such things. Till next time and I hope to be hearing from you all soon.
Dear Chatpilot,
ReplyDeleteJust tonight I stumbled upon your blog because it's title caught my eye on the blog roll.
I have already read a few of your articles. I am very excited to read ALL of your posts. I am starting here with your first one, and will hopefully work my way up to current entries.
I love your clear and unpretentious style of writing...and your ideas and beliefs (so far as I've read) mirror my beliefs.
I am, without out a doubt, already a big fan.
I anticipate drawing much inspiration and motivation from "God is a Myth" in the days and years to follow.
Sincerely,
Billybee
Chatpilot,
ReplyDeleteWow man I've been reading through some of your posts interesting stuff. I'm a Christian and thought your posts interesting. My name is Dan. You have a lot of strong arguments against Christianity. So I thought Id offer some counter balance for your readers. I'm not angry or upset, but i would love to discuss this with you so I thought where I could give somewhat of an intelligent answer. I don't think I always be right and do think you make some interesting points. I just thought I would offer a few of my own thoughts every once in a while through your entries so Ill start here and work my way forward. Its my hope to give you thought intelligent answers to your arguments. The reason being is there's nothing that I've read that has not been brought up before in the last 2,000 years of Christianity and yet if you study Christian history you will realize that Christianity went through an increbile academic phase in its pursuit of God. SO to say that Christianity has no basis in reason what soever is a little ignorant from a historical perceptive.
First I would like to address the issue of religion being the cause of much stiff. My answer to that would be yes and no. Religion has been used for much evil in the world but i would say that only half truth. It would be more accurate to say that religion has been used as front or an excuse to do evil. This puts the problem back on humanity for evil. The reason i feel this is more accurate is because it would be a fallacy to imply that if religion was taken out of the world people would be less evil. WW1 WW2 were wars that were not based out of religion, nor was the cold war. People may use it as front for war but the truth is if Religion was not there they would use something else to rationalize evil and strife.
I'll be honest. I think you are a very hurting man because you spent your time blogging about why people should not believe in God. Furthermore its specifically Christianity that you are addressing here and you are not debunking any other major faith group. I find that interesting. It shows me that you have a beef specifically with Christianity, otherwise your arguments would be much broader. If you are free from Christianity, why does it still dictate what you write about? I think you have some hurt and forgiveness to work through, it comes out strong in how you write. You are hurting
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
ReplyDeleteFor many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 2 John 1:7
God is not angry at humanity, He sent His only Son to redeem the world.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous, that is your interpretation of what that book of fairy tales you call the bible has led you to believe. Maybe just for kicks you should read the Old Testament in its entirety just to see what a loving savage beast your God really is. If God did become flesh in our history his name was not Jesus Christ, it was Adolf Hitler.
