God: behind the mask of a moral monster

6The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”Genesis 6:6-7

In Genesis chapter six we are introduced to the well known and ofen cited story of Noah's ark. Within this story God decides to destroy mankind including the animals  because mankind had become wicked and his thoughts were always on evil all the time. But my problem with this story is mainly best formulated in the form of a question. What did the animals do that made the Lord come to such a rash decision to include them in his "final solution" of cleansing the earth?

Any rational person who has ever studied wild life can tell you that animals have no concept of sin. In order to be a sinner according to the teachings of the Bible you must first possess the ability to be self aware and conscious of sin. Think about this for a minute. Could you consciously convict a 5 year old for arson if he started a fire and caused extensive damage because he happened to be playing with matches? Even in today's legal system there are stipulations that protect the criminally insane from prosecution if they are found incompetent to stand trial. In order to be liable for a crime you must have the mental capacity to know that what you did was wrong.

Being consciously aware of your sins is what repentance is all about! You can't repent of something that you are not even aware that you have done. Despite the fact that on more than one occassion the Bible has ridiculous tales of animals talking or God using them to carry out his plans as in the story of Jonah, there is nothing that indicates then nor today that animals are self aware, self reflective, or that they even live by a moral code as we understand morality.

Animal cruelty is a crime!

21Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. 22Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. 23Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth.Genesis 7:21-23

Notice above how the Bible proudly anounces the death of the majority of mankind, and the animals. So much so that for emphasis it takes three verses to narrate this horrendous act of cruelty by a so called loving and beneficent creator God! In the story of Noah's ark we see the worlds most horrible crime committed and yet today people insist that we praise and worship the worse criminal in all of history known to man. What people fail to realize is that if the story of Noah's ark is true then God is no better than Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler, or Stalin combined! Christians insist that without God in your life it is impossible for anyone to know or possess true morals or comprehend the concept of morality.

Murder is immoral no matter how or by whom it is carried out!

It's pretty ironic that the Bible actually condemns murder but apparently God is free to do so at will and not held accountable for his actions because he is the creator and can do with his creation as he pleases! Murder is defined as : to kill (a human being) unlawfully and with premeditated malice.God definitely fulfilled these requirements not just in the tale of Noah's ark but in numerous other tales contained in the Bible as well. Apologists can say that they were sinners and that they had it coming, but it does not make up for the fact that if any of these tales were true (which they aren't) the Bible is a book which contains some of the most horrendous crimes man has ever known.

The biblical deity is a monster! 

Generally when we think of monsters we think of blood thirsty imaginary beings who lust for the taste of flesh and blood. We have even classified serial killers as monsters for the simple fact that they have an apparently insatiable bloodlust like nothing we can ever even begin to imagine. When we think of monsters we imagine them as hating humans for the most part and bent on our destruction. If these descriptions of monsters are accurate don't you think that it's about time that we add our imagined deities to this list and call them what they are?
