I know for a fact that many people in the prison population convert while in prison. Sometimes its not out of being repentant for their sins but more for belonging to a group that will protect you.

Many of those convicts that convert in jail go right back out to doing what they were doing when they got locked up. Besides there are many that claim to be Muslim or Christian yet don't live by the strict religious laws of those religions. They are believers from the mouth only like your local drug dealer who wears a rosary while selling drugs on the street corner. Or the hooker wearing her crucifix while she is out looking for clients.

You can't judge a religion by the actions of some of its believers. Christian is about 75% - same as in the regular US population. Atheists, despite being around 10% of the general population make up about 0.1% of the prison population.MattShizzlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11529800999569158542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6211409678921393693.post-49252818675743811752013-11-16T19:50:35.887-05:002013-11-16T19:50:35.887-05:00It's ironic that so many christians assume tha...It's ironic that so many christians assume that one must be a christian (or at least a believer, or a "follower of jesus") in order to be a "good" person. I've been acquainted with numerous believers who have respected me and treated me as a "good and equal" person until they discovered my atheism. Once that happens they want to know why I "hate god" and won't accept jesus as "my savior"--and of course then they'll either try to convert me or (better, as far as I'm concerned) call an end to our relationship. Not all christians fit this profile, fortunately, and I find it much easier to accept those who are able to acknowledge that I'm equally able to be kind and charitable as they are (even though they privately probably think I'm hell-bound!).paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09223187745285923039noreply@blogger.com
